Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs)

Canadian commercial real estate (consisting of shopping malls, industrial properties and apartment buildings) continues to attract strong institutional and pension fund interest, mainly for its historically low leverage, conservative payout ratios (most REITs pay investors monthly cash flow), good rental lifts at lease renewals and very high occupancy rates. The balance sheets of many Canadian REITs are in very good shape.
